Storytime: this weekend I was running errands and when I came to the check-out register I had to have an entire conversation with myself. Y’all know once you get up there to the registers there is candy, chips and so much more stuff to enjoy. Of course, I wanted some chips, because chips are my favorite. Before putting my stuff on the belt for check out, I had a self talk with myself to get me together.
I asked myself – do you want these empty calories or do you want food? I quickly realized I just needed to eat food, so I made a conscious decision and put the chips back. ?
Within a moment, I went from making a decision that would have given me instant gratification to thinking more long term about my health and fitness goals.
Sometimes, all it takes is a moment of inner self-talks to make a better decision at that moment.
I felt like I had a thought to make an impulse decision to buy chips, that I had to instantly replace with a better thought about a healthier food choice.
I know this sounds simple because it was only a bag of chips, but once you can do this with a small decision when your options become harder it will be easier for you to have that self-talk to make the right decision at that moment.
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; – 2 Corinthians 10:5
