Hey y’all! I’m back! I have been writing throughout the summer, so I can wait for y’all to read all this new material.
As I continue to journey through this next chapter of my life, my word for the year is flexibility.
Flexibility isn’t a word that I use very often. I am a woman who knows what I want the majority of the time; however, when I don’t know what I want, I can review all the options and make a decision pretty quickly.
Whew chile, but as we all know life is full of turns, twists, detours, stop signs and reverse signs and things don’t go our way all the time as we planned.
Storytime:
I am now a published author, but prior to the release of this book I planned to release it on my birthday, August 31st. I am 100% sure I made that clear to Amazon.
I believe the saying goes, “if you want God to laugh, tell him your plan,” so I am sure he got a kick out of this.
Well, what had happened was – note…whenever someone says this, the story is about to get good – it wasn’t released on my birthday. Believe me, I tried to release it on my birthday. I called Amazon every day and bugged them, sometimes twice a day. But guess what? It didn’t happen. #ouch
I refreshed my emails all day and checked my notifications in anticipation of the release so I could share it and still nothing. #exhausted
So, I had to wait, be patient and flexible as they carefully reviewed all the details of my book.
Was I happy about it? #ummheckno
I wanted to tell Amazon to run me my book today!
But I learned flexibility, for me, meant relinquishing control that I didn’t have or don’t have for my life.
I had to share Webster’s definition:
Flexibility: the quality of bending easily without breaking.
Whoa, that’s a whole message in itself.
I had to tell myself, if this book is released on September 1st instead of August 31st, would I still be a published author? #flexibility
Flexibility for me means rolling with punches and knowing that everything is not concrete and rigid. Just like a rubber band, when life takes me for an unanticipated turn, I am going to be as elastic as possible and bounce back!
QOTD: What does flexibility look like for you?
