Reader topic posed: Fear vs Realistic

When I think of fear, my mind automatically goes to things I am afraid of such as spiders, snakes, etc…
However I think because of fear it can cause us to be realistic in our decision making as well. I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer as to if fear is different from being realistic, for me it depends and I think the response will vary drastically depending on our experiences and perception.
In the words of Tar-jay’s motto that I learned while working there, “perception is reality”. So if I perceive something, to be fearful, I may take practical or realistic steps to avoid it from occurring.
For example, I’m afraid of scary movies. I went to one when I was younger and because of that I am literally afraid of scary movies. People laugh like oh Lawrencia, just come. Ummm no, I know to stay in my lane and scary movies aren’t in my lane or anywhere close to my lane because
1. I know I will be scared and scream the entire time
2. Probably have nightmares

Therefore, because of my fear and dislike of scary movies, the practical and realistic thing for me to do is to avoid them, which I do.
So, if you ever ask me to go to a scary movie with you
1. I’ll probably refer you to read this blog post and
2. My answer will be no.

Because fear is an internal emotion, it can become our reality and hinder us sometimes from progression in life. If I was fearful of planes, I would have never seen how beautiful various countries are in the world. So, dont let fear deter you from your purpose or things you really want to pursue. Fear stopping me from watching scary movies -not a big deal. Fear of rejection stopping me from applying for a promotion, launching a company, new relationship, etc… pray on that fear because it can be your reality that is blocking your potential.

In a world full of copy cats, the world needs you to be original. If someone doesn’t like you because you are being your authentic self, keep it moving boo!

I remember when I first decided to go natural, I was unsure exactly what I was going to do to my hair, but I was tired of straightening my hair every other day when I worked out and said I would at least try the natural thing.
It was intimidating at first because there are so many natural products, I’m like where do you even start. Lol ? So, of course everyone had opinions and advice, which was very much appreciated.

However when people are telling you to do the big chop and they have a ponytail and u know if u bigged chopped u wouldnt even have an oxtail you have to be your own Be-YOU-tiful. I realized I had to make a choice and I decided my Be-YOU-tiful meant keeping my hair with the two texture.

???LISTEN “they” had a lot of advice, but “they”were not going to be struggling with my hair on the weekends when I’ve spent 2 hours watching youtube tutorials and my hair still didn’t look anything close to the girl in the video.? My twist outs were just out, so I passed on that.?????
I decided to get sew ins and wear bundles or get crochet braids until I felt comfortable with my hair.

Be true to you and what you like.

If bundles make you feel Be-YOU-tiful then bundle up.
If your natural hair makes u Be-YOU-tiful then rock it!

What is gassing up?

Welp, I’m glad u asked. The urbandictionary describes gassing up as: To give someone an ego boost, to swell up their head with compliments.

I’ll give you examples:
If I know my friend was working out recently and loss weight I’ll say:
So you are going to walk in her with no waist? Like ur whole waist disappeared. Yassss boo!

With my sisters: okay did boo! #done
We have our own sister language. Lol

And of course I gas myself up:
Sooooo you just decided to be cute cute today. Lol.

When I hear the word alignment, my mind quickly thinks about my car tires. Like some of yall when I check the alignment on my tires, I will take my hands off the wheel for a few seconds to see if my car veers to the left or right. If it doesn’t, I’m like cool my alignment is good.??

I also thought about the root word “align” but changed it to “a line”. When I was in elementary school, we had red tape put on the floors of the hallways to remind us to get in “a line” when we were exiting the classroom to go to another class, lunch or recess. I remember when some of my classmates didnt adhere to the teachers instructions and purposefully didnt get in “a line” we would have to wait, therefore we had less time for lunch and or recess and had to maximum the limited time available.

I was reading a devotion a few weeks ago by Tauren Wells called Known in the bible app. Tauren Wells did a great job of illustrating what happens when we are in alignment with God’s purpose and will for our life. The beautiful thing about alignment is you can easily visualize when something isnt aligned. Either you are aligned or you are not.

Every now and then, just like with anything else we have to self evaluate ourselves. God are my actions aligned with the plans you have for my life or do I need to veer to the left or the right because I am out of line or not synced with you. If we are not properly aligned, we may delay blessings and plans that God has for us until we are back properly aligned to receive them.

Just like I take my car to get a tune up, I often do pulse checks for myself to see how I’m doing spiritually and physically. Am I praying, spending time with God, doing devotions, or is all of my time being spent on social media?

Disclaimer: Before the grammar police come for me, I know it should be more instead of mo’. However, sometimes when you are in a desperate need for something you don’t have time to annoucate or articulate and all you can do is get out Mo’ Jesus and guess what he understands you. The bible says he knows our thoughts, before we even think it (Psalms 139:4)
Like that’s cray! My thoughts can be all over the place and change with the wind, immediately. If he knows all of that, it is conformation for me that I need him.
Here are some ways in the last few days in which I’ve realized I needed just a little Mo’ Jesus…

1. Someone cuts me off in traffic
2. Car trouble
3. My automatic draft for a bill comes out of my account twice ummm the way my acct is set up, run me my money back TODAY!
4. People at work getting on my last nerve
5. Someone throws shade or has a petty remark and I want to clap back ??
6. People lie on me or try to demean my character
7. I’m running late to an important event and my entire schedule is off.
8. When my patience and tolerance for people is low.
9. When I’m worried about something I have no control over.
10. Because I’m human and imperfect

The truth of the matter is I could go on and on about ways that I need a little more Jesus in my life however I realize I just need him everyday. The best thing to do if you find yourself in one of these situations is to call on God. If you call your friend they may not always give you the best advice, although it may be good advice. But if you live a little longer your realize that all advice that sounds good it’s not good for you. So my friend what do you do when you find yourself in the situation similar to mind you calling your friend, your parents or do you call on Jesus? Because he always hears you.

Psalms 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Ever been on a plane?

Well, before take off, the flight attendant will go over the safety instructions and remind you if the pressure cabin drops, put on your own oxygen mask, before you help someone else.
This same logic applies to life. If you are depleted, then you can’t help someone else. Taking care of yourself is crucial, especially as we get older. Like seriously times fly by, I was just 20 and then BOOM out of nowhere, I’m 30!!! lol. ???

So many people will suck the life completely out of you, if you let them. Then here u are drained and have nothing to give to your own self. #empty
I’ve learned that outside of my relationship with God, I am the most important person in my life. I love to help people when I can, however I also know sometimes people will have you doing more work for them than they are willing to do themselves.

Listen…???

You are not captain save them for EVERYBODY!

We are all placed here for a purpose and to have a community for support. However, if you notice that you are that person that is always giving, you may need to take a break and take sometime for yourself and get a new community.

My advice, don’t quote me…
There should be mandatory mental health days for everyone. You should be able to call in or take a day off just because you need to breath. Just my opinion, don’t go tell your boss this, because I can’t help you if this doesn’t work. Count your coins ?bruh, before you call ?in. Lol
But on a serious note, take some time off for you when you can. On my days that I take off I may lay in bed all day in pajamas (idc) #judgeme. lol
Or…I’ll go shopping, go to the movies?, sit outside, go to comedy shows ?, journal?, read a book?, travel?, go for a walk, etc…
In closing, just dont forget to do for yourself, while you are doing for everyone else.

My friend Brittany and I were talking this weekend, like girls do about fashion, style, etc…
I’m guilty of often standing in front of my closet and thinking I don’t have anything to wear. Or, I will feel inspired to buy pieces of clothing because while “people watching”. Yes, people watching is a verb and an activity just go with it bruh. lol

Well…like I was saying, I will see something cute on someone else and buy it for myself. Of course when I buy it and try it on, it doesn’t fit me the same way and I usually end up giving it away. Or I find something really cute and then they don’t have my size available. Like they will only have double 00 or a size 2. While, I think you are beautiful for whatever size you are, I haven’t been a size 2 since birth. I’m pretty sure I went from size 2 at birth to double digits, like immediately. lol
