I recently returned from a two week vacation in Europe, and what an adventure it was.
Here is a quick snapshot of the trip:
- 16 days of travel
- 15 nights away from home
- 9 airplanes
- 9 cities
- 4 Airbnbs
- 4 countries
- 2 trains
- 2 boat rides
- 1 ferry
- 1 hotel
- And countless memories.
Before anyone gets inspired to recreate this exact itinerary, let me say this: I will probably never travel to this many places in two weeks again. It was exciting, memorable, and an incredible experience, but it was also a lot. Looking back, I can appreciate the adventure while also recognizing that a slower pace might be a little more my style next time.
People often ask me what I love most about traveling, and the answer is simple. I enjoy exploring. There is something special about seeing places in real life that I have only read about, watched on television, or admired in photos. I love experiencing different cultures, tasting local food, spending time near the water, and learning how people live around the world. Travel has a way of expanding your perspective and reminding you just how big and beautiful the world truly is.
Of course, travel is not always glamorous. It can be expensive. Sometimes you are running on very little sleep. Flights get delayed, plans change, and not every destination or experience meets your expectations. Those moments can be frustrating, but they often provide some of the greatest lessons.
More than anything, travel has taught me patience.
I’ve learned that not everything will go according to plan, and that’s okay. Sometimes you have to go with the flow and trust the process. Other times, you find yourself having the time of your life, creating memories you’ll talk about for years. Through it all, I’ve learned the importance of leading with kindness, showing grace, and respecting the people and cultures around me.
Travel reminds me that every person has a story, every place has something to teach us, and every journey offers an opportunity to grow.
What about you? Do you travel often? What’s one thing you never leave home without when you travel?
